Veteran West Bengal singer Nachiketa Chakraborty was rushed to a private hospital in Kolkata late Saturday after suddenly falling ill, regional media reported.

The 61-year-old performer had been touring and gave several concerts in recent days. Family members say he experienced acute chest discomfort on Saturday night and was admitted around 2 am. Doctors diagnosed a cardiac problem and installed two stents to stabilise his condition. Hospital sources said Nachiketa is now in a stable condition.

His daughter, Dhansiri Chakraborty, told reporters that her father's health has improved since the emergency procedure. "He was active and had performed multiple shows," she said. "When he became unwell, we took him to the hospital without delay. The prompt care meant the situation did not become worse. He is much better than he was."

Those close to the singer said he had no prior history of heart disease, though he has managed other chronic health issues and typically follows a controlled diet. Sources added that the recent run of back-to-back performances likely increased physical strain.

As a result of the hospitalisation, Nachiketa's scheduled concert in Asansol for Sunday was cancelled, and organisers say additional dates over the next few days have been postponed while he recovers.

Nachiketa Chakraborty, widely respected for his songs and contributions to Bengali music, rose to prominence in the 1990s and remains a familiar voice on the regional stage. Fans and colleagues have sent messages of support since news of his illness emerged.

Organisers asked ticket holders for updates through official channels and urged the public to respect the family's privacy as the singer recuperates.
