The 35th annual Environmental Media Association Award winning film Nishi’s premiere in Bangladesh was held at the European Film Festival at Goethe-Institut Bangladesh on Saturday.
The film Nishi, based on a story and screenplay by Golam Rabbany, is jointly directed by Rabbany and Zahirul Islam.
Produced by the International Academy of Film and Media, the film was also co-produced by the European Union Bangladesh, Green Film School Alliance and UNESCO Dhaka.
An eight-minute duration environmental film, Nishi, was shot one day in a tea garden and surrounding areas in Sylhet, featuring the local people of the garden.
The film revolves around a tea-worker’s daughter named Nishi, who collects water from a long distance, which hampers her schooling, and her father, however, plans to organise Nishi’s marriage to another tea-worker in exchange for a tube well.
The film featured performances by Nishi, daughter of a tea estate worker, along with Biswajit, Ganesh and Bharati.
The film’s cinematography was done by Natalia Pusnik, an alumnus of Poland’s renowned Łód Film School.
A four-day ‘European Film Festival 2025’ which began Thursday evening at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy Auditorium showcases European and Bangladeshi films at Alliance Francaise Dhanmondi branch and Goethe-Institut in the capital.
The closing and award giving ceremony will be held at BRAC University Auditorium today.
