Rituporna Chakma’s Rajshahi Stars moved a step closer to clinching the Women’s Football League title after securing a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Farashganj Sporting Club at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur on Saturday.
The high-stakes clash, billed as an unofficial final between the league’s two strongest sides, lived up to expectations with a tight and tactical contest.
The decisive moment came in the 39th minute when Alpi Akter capitalised on a costly error by Farashganj goalkeeper Yearzan Begum, calmly finishing from inside the penalty area to score the match’s only goal.
That strike proved enough to separate the teams and hand Rajshahi all three points, extending their perfect run in the competition. The win keeps Rajshahi at the top of the standings with 21 points from seven matches.
Bangladesh Army are second with 21 points from eight games, while Farashganj dropped to third with 18 points from seven outings, having suffered their first defeat after six consecutive wins.
Rajshahi Stars have three matches remaining in the 10-team league, where they will face Siraj Smriti Sangsad, Sadyapushkarini and title rivals Bangladesh Army. Farashganj, meanwhile, will take on BKSP, Bangladesh Police and Ansar and VDP in their remaining fixtures.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Siraj Smriti Sangsad produced a dominant performance to thrash defending champions Nasrin Sports Academy 5–0, while Bangladesh Army underlined their title credentials with a resounding 9–0 victory over Sadyapushkarini, thanks to Unnoti Khatun’s hat-trick with four goals.
