Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has asked the government and private individuals and organisations to remove construction materials and other goods kept on roads and footpaths in different parts of Dhaka.

In a public notice issued today, the DMP said such practices are creating traffic congestion and causing difficulties for pedestrians.

The DMP said it has recently observed that construction materials used in various works, along with other goods, are being kept indiscriminately on roads and footpaths across Dhaka. As a result, traffic congestion is being created on the roads, while pedestrian movement is being hampered.

The notice said the matter is punishable under sections 67, 68, 72 and 102 of the DMP Ordinance, 1976, and section 31 and 82 of the Road Transport Act, 2018.

It added that special drives will be conducted in Dhaka city by executive magistrates of the metropolitan area and the DMP Traffic Division against such activities.
