Two detained for interrogation, police say

Police recovered the body of a businessman from a microbus in Adamdighi of Bogura early today, hours after he was abducted at gunpoint from Dupchanchia upazila of the district last night.

The deceased was identified as Pintu Akanda, 35, owner of the Lotto showroom in Dupchanchia. He resided at Lohagacha village in Raninagar upazila of Naogaon.

Police have detained the microbus driver and another suspect for interrogation in connection with the incident.

"We primarily suspect that Pintu was strangled after being abducted at gunpoint. We are currently conducting the inquest. The exact reason for death can be confirmed following an autopsy," said Md Asif Hossain, assistant superintendent of Police, Bogura Adamdighi Circle.

"We have not yet ascertained the motive behind the abduction and murder. An investigation is underway. We are working to identify and detain those involved. The microbus driver and another suspect have been detained for interrogation," Asif Hossain confirmed to The Daily Star.

Police recovered the body around 3:00am today, following the GPS tracker of the microbus from the Kumarpara area in Adamdighi upazila, he added

A CCTV footage of the abduction, which has circulated on social media, shows a white Hiace microbus arriving in front of the Lotto showroom around 9:08pm yesterday. Four miscreants, all with their faces covered, exited the vehicle. One of them pointed a firearm at Pintu and dragged him out of the showroom.

The group then forced him into the vehicle and sped off towards Adamdighi via the Bogura-Naogaon regional highway.
