Actor and singer Kushum Shikder has released a new song nearly nine years after her last musical work, while also preparing for the release of an upcoming web series.
The newly released track, “Hera Hote Hele Dule”, is a naat-e-Rasul written and composed by Kazi Nazrul Islam. According to Kushum, this marks her first song release since “Nesha”, which came out in 2017.
The music video for “Hera Hote Hele Dule” was produced using artificial intelligence technology. The project was created under the banner of Impress Telefilm, based on the concept of Faridur Reza Sagar and Shaikh Siraj. The video premiered on Channel i last Sunday before being released on the channel’s digital platforms.
Kushum Shikder has trained in Nazrul Sangeet and classical music at the Nazrul Academy, which she says made performing the song particularly meaningful. “I primarily consider myself a Nazrul Sangeet artiste. Returning with a song by Kazi Nazrul Islam feels very special,” she said, adding that she also found the use of AI technology in the music video an exciting development reflecting the rapid evolution of global technology.
Alongside her musical comeback, Kushum has recently wrapped up shooting for the web series “Paap Kahini 2”. The series, directed by Shahriar Nazim Joy, marks her first appearance in a web-based production. The story revolves around themes of love, infidelity, deception and revenge. Joy also directed the first instalment, “Pap Kahini”, which was released last year.
Speaking about her experience working on an OTT project for the first time, Kushum said the medium itself did not significantly change the acting process. She noted that she focused on delivering her best performance for the character and enjoyed collaborating with Joy and familiar co-actors.
If all goes as planned, “Paap Kahini 2” is expected to premiere this Eid-ul-Fitr on the OTT platform iScreen. Kushum added that she will soon begin dubbing for the series but chose not to reveal further details about the storyline.
Describing herself as selective in choosing projects, the actress said she prefers roles that avoid repetition. “I always try to choose characters that are different from one another. That’s why my number of projects is relatively limited,” she said, expressing hope that audiences will appreciate the new series.
