A six-day group painting exhibition styled ‘Tribandhon’ that showcased three emerging artists—Md Fariaz Emran, Niharika Awhona Barsaat and Surovi Akter—concluded on Wednesday at Alliance Française, Dhaka in the capital.
The exhibition, inaugurated on June 12, with 94 artworks divided into four distinct series, celebrated the power of art to build connections between individuals, communities and the environments they inhabit.
The exhibition presented 11 portraits of the country’s legendary artists, SM Sultan, Zainul Abedin, Safiuddin Ahmed, Mohammad Kibria, and Novera Ahmed, among them, in ballpoint and gel pens on brown paper.
The portraits, all by Surovi Akter, reveal a remarkable sensitivity to individual character and psychological depth.
A long series of works by Md Fariaz Emran attempts to bring up the harsh lives of rickshaw-pullers juxtaposed with the vibrant colours that characterise their vehicles that originated in Old Dhaka and constitute part of its rich heritage.
Niharika Awhona Barsaat’s series, titled ‘Journey by Life’, depicted experiences of loneliness, emotional struggles and hope for the future through symbols, vivid colours, textures and collages.
