Noting that a politically stable government has been established in Bangladesh, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen today said China will increase its investment in the country.
He made the remarks during a courtesy call on Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed at the ministry.
Salahuddin, in turn, called upon Chinese investors to invest more in Bangladesh.
The home minister said China and Bangladesh are time-tested friends, and Bangladesh wants to take the bilateral relationship to a new level, considering regional, strategic, and geographical realities.
Mentioning that China is one of Bangladesh’s largest development partners and has invested in many major projects, he requested the ambassador to help increase the investment volume further in the near future.
The ambassador said around 10,000 Chinese citizens are currently working in different sectors in Bangladesh.
He said development and security are interlinked, and urged stronger law enforcement and security measures to boost investment.
Salahuddin said the number one priority of the current government is to control law and order and maintain stability.
During the meeting, the ambassador requested Bangladesh to join the “International Alliance Combating Telecom and Cyber Fraud”, an initiative of China’s public security ministry, and said a proposal had been sent through proper channels.
Salahuddin instructed relevant officials to review the memorandum of understanding, titled “Plan of Action on Law Enforcement Training Cooperation”, between the two countries, as its tenure ended in 2023.
The home minister also informed the ambassador that he would visit China at a convenient time.
The meeting discussed cooperation in security, law and order, combating cybercrime, police training, expanding trade and commerce, and strengthening bilateral ties.
At the beginning of the meeting, the ambassador presented flowers to Salahuddin, conveying greetings from China’s public security minister, and invited him to visit China in September this year.
Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury and other officials from the home ministry and the Chinese embassy were present.
