Visual artist Fawaz Rob addresses the crises of people in Palestine and Rohingya in his solo print exhibition at Zainul Gallery of Dhaka University in the capital.
He also depicted Dhaka city’s night views and the city bird, a crow, in his solo exhibition, which ended on Sunday.
The 11-day exhibition displayed 92 prints under nine series which began on November 27.
The Palestine’s series displayed ten prints depicting Khan Yunis Mosque and The Church of Palestine images, before and after being destroyed by Israel.
A print titled Gaza 1924 shows the beautiful landscape of Gaza city.
His artwork titled Leaving Rafa shows people from Rafa carrying their bags to leave the city during the attack by the Israeli occupation.
His series titled Activism also depicted the plight of the Rohingya people and others.
His print titled Long Walk Home depicted Rohingyas fleeing genocide committed by the Burmese army, while another print titled Two Rohingya Girls showed the life of Rohingyas at the refugee camp located at the shore of the Bay of Bengal.
A text based artwork titled Chiro Unnoto Momo Shir beautifully composed the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s timeless poem Bidrohi.
Fawaz Rob’s night series depicted Dhaka city’s night at different places including Street, a university, restaurants, bars and Ahsan Manzil.
‘If our art doesn’t speak up when it is necessary, if our art cannot stand up for the truth, if our art doesn’t speak the truth that everyone else is too scared to say, then what good is it?’ Fawaz Rob said, adding that activism through art is important and art can make a big difference.
Fawaz Rob’s art has been exhibited in Paris, Istanbul, Zagreb, Budapest, Côte d’Azur, Amsterdam, Kathmandu and Dhaka. His exhibition ‘Dhaka, I love you’ was appreciated by French art critics and was featured in ‘Le Parisian’.
His etching titled ‘Long Walk Home’ brought him international award.
His work has been archived at the International Printmaking Museum in Guanlan, China.
