Bangladesh have on hand on trophy of the maiden SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship after registering a massive 9-1 victory over Pakistan in their penultimate match in Bangkok on Friday.
Captain Sabina Khatun once again led from the front, scoring four goals in the one-sided affair to take Bangladesh to the top of the seven-team table with 13 points from five matches.
Sabina and Co now need a win over winless Maldives in their final match on Sunday to secure another trophy in the new format, following their two successive triumphs in the SAFF Women’s Championship.
However, if India fail to beat Bhutan in a late match tonight, Bangladesh will already be crowned champions with a game in hand.
India are currently in second position with nine points from four matches, followed by Bhutan with eight points from the same number of matches.

Pakistan resisted for the first six minutes by denying Bangladesh a few scoring chances before Sabina broke the deadlock in the seventh minute, capitalising on a square pass from Matsushima Sumaya. Once the opener arrived, the charges of Saeid Khodarahmi opened the floodgates, scoring five more goals in the first half, with Sabina adding another before the break. Nilufa Yeasin made it 2–0 in the ninth minute.
Nusrat Jahan also struck a brace, while Krishna Rani Sarkar netted one as Bangladesh went into halftime with a commanding 6-0 lead.
In the second half, Krishna scored again before Pakistan pulled one back to make it 7-1, while Sabina added two more goals in the latter stages to complete the emphatic win.
