A new film titled “Mon Pakhi”, centred on the lives, relationships, struggles and realities of the indigenous Santal community, is currently in production.

The film is written and directed by Tina Khan, while Syed Masum has written the screenplay and dialogues and is also serving as an adviser to the director.

“Mon Pakhi” will tell a human story rooted in Santal life and culture, exploring the community’s everyday experiences, relationships, love and struggles amid various social challenges.

The first phase of shooting has already been completed across several districts, including Tangail and Mymensingh. Sony Rahman, Brishti Chowdhury, Jackie Alamgir, Rebecca and Amin Sarkar were among those who took part in the first schedule.

Mahmudul Islam Mithu, Faiyaz Ahmed Bobby and noted dancer Munmun Ahmed, alongside several other artistes, are expected to join the cast during the next phase of filming.

Speaking about the project, Sony Rahman said, “Throughout my acting career, I have worked in several television dramas and a few films, but I have never worked on a story like this before. In fact, I am not aware of whether a film centred on the lives of the Santal community has been made in this way before. Since the story is rooted in real life, the role is challenging for me.”

National Film Award-winning cinematographer Asaduzzaman Majnu is serving as the film’s director of photography. Delwar Hossain Chunnu is directing the action sequences, while Shawkat Ali Emon is overseeing the music.
