Bangladeshi shooter Robiul Islam finished 15th among 22 competitors in the qualification round of the men’s 10m air rifle event at the Asian Shooting Championships in New Delhi on Friday.
Robiul, who last competed at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, scored 622.2, falling 2.4 points short of the eighth and final qualifying position for the final. India’s Vishal Singh secured that last spot with a score of 624.6.
The Bangladeshi shooter had shown strong form in training, reportedly scoring between 628 and 631 during practice sessions. However, he failed to replicate that performance in competition. Robiul had previously shot 624.2 at the Paris Olympics and recorded an impressive 629.2 at the Baku World Championships in 2023.
The Asian Championship outing proved disappointing for Robiul, who went into the event following just three weeks of preparation.
India’s Rudrankksh Patil topped the qualification round with a score of 632.1, while Nikita Shakhtorin of Kazakhstan finished second on 629.2.
