A writ petition has been filed with the High Court challenging the legality of repealing the ordinance issued by the interim government that established a separate Secretariat for the Supreme Court.

Seven lawyers, including Advocate Saddam Hossein, submitted the petition as a public interest litigation to the HC yesterday, seeking its directive on the government to retain the independent secretariat of the Supreme Court.

The HC bench of Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar may hold a hearing on the petition later in the day, petitioner Saddam told The Daily Star today.

Senior lawyer Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir will move the petition.

The respondents in the writ include the cabinet secretary, secretary to Parliament, the law secretary, and others concerned.

On April 9, the Jatiya Sangsad repealed three ordinances issued by the interim government, including those related to the appointment of Supreme Court judges and the establishment of an independent secretariat.
