OpenAI has reported that ChatGPT now has over 800 million weekly users, attributing the chatbot's popularity to its rapid adoption in workplaces.

New data from the company's latest 'The state of enterprise AI' report shows a sharp rise in professional usage. Messages sent within the corporate version, ChatGPT Enterprise, have increased eightfold over the past year. Companies are also moving from simple queries to structured workflows, with the use of custom AI projects rising 19 times this year.

A survey of 9,000 enterprise workers found that 75% say using AI has made them faster or improved their work quality, saving an average of 40 to 60 minutes per day, according to the report by OpenAI. Specific gains include faster problem-solving in IT departments and quicker code delivery among engineers. Three-quarters of users also said they can now do new tasks they couldn't before.

OpenAI says ChatGPT's growth is widespread, with the fastest uptake in the technology, healthcare, and manufacturing sectors. Corporate usage is growing quickly in several countries, including Australia, Brazil, and France.

The report also notes a growing divide between leading and average companies. Firms and workers who use AI most intensively are seeing significantly larger productivity gains. OpenAI added in the report that the primary constraint for organisations is no longer the technology, but their own readiness and implementation strategies.
