Popular Bangladeshi singer Kumar Bishwajit will take the stage in Toronto this Valentine’s Day, headlining a solo concert for the Bangladeshi diaspora while continuing a deeply personal battle far from home.

The veteran singer has been living in Canada since February 2023, when his only son, Kumar Nibir, was critically injured in a road accident. Nibir underwent prolonged hospital treatment before being shifted to a rehabilitation centre in Mississauga, where he remains under medical supervision. Bishwajit, along with his wife, has stayed by his son’s side throughout the recovery process.

Though Nibir has yet to return to normal life, Bishwajit has gradually resumed performing. Over the past year, he has appeared at concerts across Canada, as well as in the United States and Europe. He has largely remained absent from stages in Bangladesh, returning home only briefly before flying back to Canada, from where he also oversees his business interests in Chattogram.

On February 14, he will perform at the Grand Cinnamon Banquet Hall in Scarborough, Toronto, in a concert titled “BCE Valentine 2026: Kumar Bishwajit Live”. The event is being organised for expatriate Bangladeshis marking Valentine’s Day. Organisers have confirmed that the concert will be ticketed, and a press conference has already been held in Toronto to announce the programme.

Speaking earlier about his decision to return to live performances, Bishwajit said he felt a responsibility to his audience. “I am planning to take part in concerts. My listeners are also part of my family. I realised that I should sing for them. That’s why I started doing concerts again,” he said.
