A fire that broke out at the cargo terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Friday night is now under control.
The fire broke out at the cargo terminal, next to gate number 9 of the airport, around 11:24pm, said Shahjahan Shikder, an official of the fire service media wing.
On information, four fire engines rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 11:38pm, added the official.
On October 18 last year, a massive fire tore through the cargo complex at Dhaka airport, burning stored goods, disrupting flights, and causing long delays and diversions.
As many as 37 units from 13 fire stations, joined by the air force, navy, army, civil aviation authority, Border Guard Bangladesh, and police, worked for seven hours to contain the blaze.
At least eight domestic and international flights were diverted to Chattogram and Sylhet, while hundreds of outbound passengers were stranded at Dhaka airport for hours.
Businesses submitted insurance claims worth more than Tk 600 crore following the fire.
According to a probe report, the fire was caused by an electrical arc and short circuit.
