Former minister Hasanul Haq Inu today denied all allegations against him in a written submission to International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2), describing the case filed over the July atrocities as "fictional" and "politically motivated".

Inu was scheduled to deliver his testimony verbally before ICT-2 but could not do so due to illness. His defence counsel sought an adjournment and requested a date to allow Inu to present his statement before the tribunal.

The prosecution opposed the plea, arguing that there was no legal provision for a verbal statement after a written submission had already been filed.

The tribunal ultimately rejected the defence request and fixed April 2 for defence arguments in the case.

In his written statement, Inu said he was “not guilty” and claimed that neither he nor his party had any involvement in the killings.

“All the allegations brought against me are fictional and completely fabricated. This case is entirely baseless and designed as a plan for ‘judicial murder’,” he said.

He argued that he held no executive authority during the period of the alleged crimes and noted that he was outside the country between July 4 and July 11, 2024.

“Can a person without any official rank, position or executive power play such a massive role in suppressing a movement?” he asked, adding that the six killings in Kushtia mentioned in the case did not occur in his constituency and that he was not a sitting lawmaker at the time.

Responding to allegations involving phone calls with the ousted prime minister and a police superintendent, Inu said asking someone to be “arrested” was a legal measure intended to prevent violence, not an order to kill.

Inu, president of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, is accused in a crimes against humanity case over the atrocities committed during the July 2024 uprising.
