Veteran journalist and educator, Shahed Kamal, passed away on Saturday evening. He was 85.

He breathed his last around 7:30pm after life support was withdrawn while he was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Sikder Medical College Hospital in the capital, said Suriya Begum, associate professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Dhaka University.

Shahed Kamal, son of renowned poet Sufia Kamal, began his journalism career in 1957.

He joined the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Dhaka University as an adjunct teacher in 1976 and taught there for decades.
