Sylhet District Police has suspended a police constable identified as Morsalin Kabir from Beanibazar Police Station after he allegedly tried to flee with a motorcycle during a “trial ride” arranged with its seller in Golapganj on Thursday.

Mohammad Samrat Talukder, assistant superintendent of police (media) at Sylhet District Police, confirmed the suspension this morning.

Local resident Saidur Rahman had posted a Facebook advertisement to sell his motorcycle. Morsalin, along with a man identified as Oliul Islam, contacted him and went to see the motorcycle in the Hetimganj area of the upazila.

The two expressed interest in taking the motorcycle for a trial ride. Morsalin then rode towards Golapganj with the motorcycle, prompting Saidur to suspect foul play and follow him.

Local residents helped Saidur detain Morsalin in the Boitikor area of Golapganj Municipality. They beat him before handing him over to Golapganj Police Station, where he identified himself as a police member, according to police.

“He has been temporarily suspended over the motorcycle-related matter. A departmental inquiry will be conducted against him,” the ASP said.
