US medical drama “The Pitt” has emerged as the most nominated series at the 78th Emmy Awards, earning 25 nominations. Comedy series “Hacks” followed closely with 24 nominations, while “Widow’s Bay” received 19 and “Pluribus” secured 18.
The nominations, announced on Tuesday, placed “The Pitt” among the contenders for Outstanding Drama Series alongside “The Diplomat”, “The Gilded Age”, “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms”, “Paradise”, “Pluribus”, “Slow Horses” and “Your Friends & Neighbors”.
The final season of “Stranger Things” was notably absent from the top drama category. The Netflix hit received seven nominations, all in technical categories. Another popular series, “Euphoria”, also missed out on a drama series nomination, although its lead star Zendaya earned a nomination for Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
In the comedy category, “Hacks”, “The Bear”, “Abbott Elementary”, “Shrinking”, “Only Murders In The Building”, “Nobody Wants This”, “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” and “Widow’s Bay” will compete for the top prize. However, “The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White was left out of the Lead Actor category despite winning the award in both 2024 and 2025.
British talent featured strongly across the acting categories. Matthew Rhys received two lead acting nominations for “Widow’s Bay” and “The Beast In Me”, making him the only performer nominated twice in the lead categories this year. Riz Ahmed was nominated for “Bait”, Carey Mulligan for “Beef”, Gary Oldman for “Slow Horses”, and Rufus Sewell for “The Diplomat”.The nominees for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series include “All Her Fault”, “The Beast In Me”, “Beef”, “DTF St Louis” and “Love Story: John F Kennedy Jr & Carolyn Bessette”.The winners of the 78th Emmy Awards will be announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles on September 14.
