Veteran actor Sohel Rana has called on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to exercise tighter control over certain ministers, cautioning that their public statements could negatively impact both the government and the ruling party.

In a post shared on his verified Facebook account on Friday night (February 20), Sohel Rana said that the people of Bangladesh had welcomed the prime minister with “great joy and hope” over the past three days as the head of government. However, he urged the premier to advise some ministers to refrain from making unnecessary media appearances.

“There is no need for them to appear before the press and show their faces on television and in print media without any specific news,” he wrote, suggesting that departmental updates could instead be delivered by designated spokespersons.

The noted actor added that ministers should only face the media when necessary and after consulting with the prime minister. He expressed concern that some individuals who had quickly risen through the ranks—from party workers to members of parliament and then to ministers—may have forgotten that they are no longer speaking merely as political party leaders.

According to Sohel Rana, some of their inconsistent or impulsive remarks could have repercussions for both the party and the prime minister.

Warning of potential consequences, he said that unless tighter control is established, early gains could be undermined. Concluding his message, Sohel Rana extended his thanks and best wishes to the prime minister.
