India has reportedly agreed to participate in the 2027 SAF Games in Pakistan, Gulf News says, citing reports in the Pakistani media.

Pakistan Olympic Association Secretary General Khalid Mehmood said India was represented at a high-level meeting of the South Asian Olympic Association, where it accepted Pakistan’s invitation to compete in the Games.

He said India had given its consent at the regional sporting level, while details of its contingent are expected to be communicated in January 2027, reports bdnews24.com.

The 2027 edition, scheduled to run from Apr 4 to 11, will mark Pakistan’s return as host after a 23-year gap. It last hosted the 9th SAF Games in Islamabad in 2004.

The multi-sport tournament is proposed to feature 28 sports hosted across three major cities: Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar.

Islamabad will host the bulk of the events -- including squash, tennis, and martial arts -- while Lahore will stage 10 sports, such as cricket, swimming, and hockey.

Peshawar is slated to host three disciplines.

Preparations are already under way, with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar recently chairing a review meeting focusing on venue readiness, accommodation, medical logistics, and security for the thousands of international athletes and media personnel expected to attend.
