Former Awami League minister Dipu Moni’s daughter Tani Deepavali Nawaz on Wednesday sought a seven-day parole of her mother from Munshiganj District Jail to attend her ailing father Tawfiq Nawaz.
She submitted the application to the Munshiganj deputy commissioner.
Munshiganj deputy commissioner Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi told New Age at 6:30pm on Wednesday, ‘I have just received the application. The matter is being examined and a decision will be made after consultation with the officials concerned,’ she said.
According to the application, Dipu Moni, currently detained at Munshiganj District Jail, was arrested on August 20, 2024 in connection with a murder case filed with the Mohammadpur police station and was later shown arrested in 37 more cases.
The application said that Dipu Moni’s husband Tawfiq Nawaz was in critical condition at United Hospital in Dhaka.
It said that Tawfiq was suffering from cancer, liver complications and stroke-related ailments and that his condition sharply deteriorated after a blood transfusion on May 25.
Citing humanitarian grounds, the application said that Dipu Moni’s presence beside her husband was urgently required for his treatment during the critical period.
