Absconding content creator Ripon Mia was arrested early today in connection with a case filed over the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl in Netrokona Sadar.

A Rab team detained Ripon from the Mohisharon Achintapur area under Gouripur around 12:05am Friday (August 7), said Maj Mir Ishtiyaque Amin, company commander of Rab-14 Mymensingh Battalion.

Rab then handed Ripon over to Netrokona police following due process.

Earlier on August 5, the victim’s father filed a case against Ripon with Netrokona Sadar Model Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000.

According to the case statement, the victim and Ripon are neighbours. Taking advantage of his popularity as a content creator, Ripon often made content with the victim without her father's knowledge.

He had also allegedly been making inappropriate advances towards her and luring her with promises of making her viral on social media.

Around 8:00pm on July 30, he allegedly called the victim to the Mogra River bank on the pretext of an urgent discussion and raped her, according to the case statement.

Abul Khayer, officer-in-charge of Netrokona Sadar Model Police Station, told The Daily Star that when the news of the incident spread in the area, local influentials settled the matter through a village arbitration.

The arbitration fined Ripon Tk 5 lakh and ordered him to leave the area, the OC said.

However, after a video of the arbitration meeting went viral on social media, police spoke to the victim's family and brought them to the police station on Tuesday and asked them to file a case, Abul Khayer said.

Police said Ripon have been absconding ever since.
