The 49th batch of Prachyanat School of Acting and Design staged ‘Guinea Pig’, written by Mamunur Rashid and directed by Sakhawat Hossain Rezvi, at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital on Tuesday.
A satirical Guinea Pig depicted the class struggle of low-wage people while the corrupt elite class spoils the wealth of the state and the lives of marginal people.
The play, set in the post-independent Bangladesh, revolved around a corrupt, high-ranked government officer Ahmed Ali. While his wife practiced Tagore songs as mark of aristocracy, their daughter followed pop culture and kept a Guinea Pig as a pet. The play further depicted low-wage earners as metaphorical Guinea Pigs.
The stage and props were designed by Swatee Bhadra, the lighting by Md Mukhlesur Rahman, and the costumes by Jesmin Jahan Jhuma. Additionally, AB Siddiqui designed the background music and Diana Mereline Chowdhury composed the choreography.
Actors including Irina La Shafina, Arunito Bhor, Maria Akter Mridula, Sadman Nafis Kaderi, Graner Paul Dip Rozario, Sahadat Hossain, Fatima Tuz Johora Juthi and Afroze Maisha Jahan Alvy starred in the play.
