Measles cases have continued to climb at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, with 26 more children admitted in the past 24 hours.

The influx of new patients up to 9am Friday has pushed the total number of children currently undergoing treatment at the facility to 91.

Golam Mowla, associate professor of the Paediatrics Department, explained that the highly infectious nature of the illness is driving the spike in cases.

He noted that the hospital is struggling to manage the surge, despite having a dedicated 64-bed isolation ward where three specialised medical teams are providing round-the-clock care.

Hospital records show that 541 children have been admitted with measles-like symptoms since Mar 17.

Among them, 437 have returned home after recovery, while 13 have died.

In the last 24 hours alone, 23 children were discharged from the wards.

Assistant Director (Administration) Md Mynuddin Khan said the death toll includes one child confirmed to have measles and 12 others who had shown symptoms.
