Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami amir Shafiqur Rahman, also the newly elected opposition leader in parliament, on Thursday said that if anybody was repressed by the government for their political identity, the Jamaat would wage movement and build resistance against that.
He said that they — the government and the opposition — would work together to establish rights of the people in the country.
Referring to a report of sacking four journalists of Ekhon TV, Shafiqur said that it was a shameless attack on the freedom of media.
‘We hope that the government would take steps to reinstate them in their jobs,’ he said while speaking at a iftar mahfil organised for orphans at a hotel in his election constituency, Dhaka-15.
‘Otherwise, we would consider that the government is moving towards autocratic rule,’ Shafiqur said.
