A Dhaka court has granted a 72-hour remand for Rare Al Samir, chief executive of ed-tech startup Interactive Cares, and his business partner and wife Jamila Bupasha Khushbu, following a second criminal case filed against the duo at Dhanmondi police Station on charges of fraud and criminal breach of trust.
The case was filed with Dhanmondi police station under sections 406, 420 and 34 of the Penal Code, which relate to criminal breach of trust, cheating and acts done with common intention.
Al Samir was initially detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on April 28 while allegedly attempting to leave the country. In an earlier case filed the previous week at a separate police station, a court rejected bail and remanded them to custody.
Investigators allege that the couple collected large sums of money from investors and members of the public under the guise of business projects and failed to return the funds. Police are currently examining the couple's financial transactions.
Al Samir has denied the allegations. Interactive Cares has not issued a formal public statement on the matter.
