A delegation of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance arrived in Tehran to attend the funeral and state mourning ceremonies of Iran's former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, today.
The delegation is visiting Iran from July 3 to 9 at the invitation of the Iranian government to participate in Khamenei's funeral and state mourning ceremonies.
Khamenei was killed on February 28 this year, on the first day of US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
According to a press release issued by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, the delegation is led by the party's Nayeb-e-Ameer and Member of Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman. Other members include Central Executive Council member and Ameer of Jamaat's Rajshahi city unit Md Keramat Ali, MP; Md Nurul Amin, MP; Pirzada Sayed Uddin Ahmad Hanzala, MP; Dr SM Khaliduzzaman; and National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Nasiruddin Patwary.
Iran has organised one of the largest state funeral and burial ceremonies in history for Khamenei, with millions of people gathering across the country.
According to British newspaper The Guardian, between 10 million and 20 million people are expected to take part in the events.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has urged people to attend the funeral in large numbers, saying the turnout would send a message of Iran's resolve and demonstrate support for the Islamic Republic.
