Bangladesh’s leading female shooter, Kamrunnahar Koly, has been handed a one-year ban by the Bangladesh Shooting Sports Federation (BSSF) on disciplinary grounds.

Koly was temporarily suspended in early January for allegedly violating the national team training camp’s code of conduct. On Monday, the Federation’s ad hoc committee confirmed the decision, following an executive committee meeting on February 2.

The suspension letter said Koly violated seven clauses of the training camp code and cited an incident on January 25 at the Federation office. According to the letter, she displayed “extremely indecent, insulting, threatening, and aggressive behavior” toward the General Secretary, executive committee members, officers, and staff in the presence of a police officer.

The Federation added that her actions “severely damaged discipline, security, and the institutional reputation” of the organization, leading to a breakdown in law and order. Koly is now banned from participating in shooting for one year under Articles 16.20 and 16.21 of the Federation’s constitution.

Earlier, Koly had raised concerns about alleged irregularities involving Federation joint secretary GM Haider, including claims of sexual harassment. The Federation, however, maintained that her ban was strictly disciplinary.

Koly is the country’s only shooter to score 629 in the 10m Air Rifle qualification at the 2022 ISSF World Championship in Egypt, and her absence leaves a significant gap in the national team. Another top shooter, Shaira Afrin, has reportedly stepped away from the sport amid the ongoing turmoil.
