Following its release in Bangladesh, the critically acclaimed film “Bonolata Sen” is set to reach audiences in Australia later this month.
Inspired by the life and literary legacy of poet Jibanananda Das, as well as his iconic poem “Bonolata Sen”, the film has received praise from both audiences and critics for its storytelling, cinematography, performances, and overall execution.
Distributed by Poth Productions, the film will be released on June 26 in five Australian cities—Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide.
Director Masud Hasan Ujjal shared the news nearly a month after the film’s domestic release.
“The love and appreciation ‘Bonolata Sen’ received from audiences in Bangladesh has been truly encouraging. We had also been receiving requests from Bangla-speaking audiences in Australia for quite some time. In response to that demand, we have arranged screenings in five cities. The list of cinemas and screening schedules will be announced soon,” he said.
Ujjal added that plans are also underway to release the film in several other Western countries.
“We want this work, rooted in Bangla literature and culture, to reach international audiences as well,” he said.
“Bonolata Sen”, which received a government grant in the 2021–22 fiscal year, was released in Bangladeshi cinemas during Eid-ul-Azha and continues to screen at theatres across the country.
The film stars Khairul Basar, Nabila, Sohel Mondol, Naziba Basher, Priyontee Urbee, Ruponty Akid, Sharif Siraj, and Sumaiya Khushi.
