Google is expanding AI Mode in Search with travel features that can track airfares, compare loyalty-point prices and help users book hotels.
The update pushes Google’s conversational search product further into territory traditionally occupied by travel search and booking platforms. Users can describe where and when they want to travel and receive flight options using live information supplied by more than 300 airlines and travel websites.
Travellers who do not want to book immediately can ask AI Mode to monitor a fare. Google says it will then send an email when relevant flight prices change. The flight-tracking feature is being made available in more than 180 countries.
The company is also introducing conversational hotel discovery and booking. Users can specify preferences, compare suggested properties and reviews, select a room and continue towards payment through participating hotel groups and travel platforms. The hotel-booking feature is initially being rolled out in English in the US.
Another update allows travellers to ask how many airline miles or hotel points are required for particular options, making loyalty currencies part of the same conversational search process.
