Two brothers were killed and two more people were injured in a road accident as a truck hit a battery-run rickshaw at Keraniganj in Dhaka on Tuesday night.

The deceased, Nadim, 15, and Rajon, 14, sons of Idu Mia, were resident of Pargandaria area under South Keraniganj.

Hasara highway police officer-in-charge Md Mamun Al Rashid on Wednesday said that the incident took place near the Tegharia passenger shelter on the service lane of Dhaka–Mawa Highway at about 11:45pm on Tuesday.

A speedy truck hit the battery-run rickshaw head-on, causing the rickshaw twisted and killed the two brothers on the spot, said the OC, adding that the rickshaw driver and another passenger were also injured in the incident.

With the help of people of the area, the highway police sent the injured to Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital, he mentioned, adding that the bodies were sent to the Srinagar upazila health complex for road traffic accident report.

The police seized the truck and the rickshaw but the truck driver fled the scene, he said. ‘In this regard, legal proceedings are under way.’
