Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad today said the aspirations that inspired the country’s 1971 Liberation War have yet to be realised.
“We hope the newly elected parliament and the people together will be able to realise those ideals,” he said while talking to journalists after Eid prayers on the Jatiya Sangsad premises this morning.
The speaker said Bangladesh has embarked on a “new journey of democracy”, with people electing a party and their representatives with high hopes and expectations.
“We expect the members of this parliament to reflect the aspirations of the people,” he said.
Referring to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, he said countries like Bangladesh may face economic challenges in the coming days.
“We pray to Almighty Allah that the war ends soon,” he added.
He also expressed hope that Bangladesh and other Muslim-majority countries would be able to stand firmly on their own feet and work collectively to advance economic development.
