A high-level secretaries’ committee on implementing the 9th Pay Scale has recommended increasing the basic salaries of government employees in grades one to 20 by up to 100 percent, according to an e-book titled “180 Days of the People’s Government”, published by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to mark the government’s first six months in office.

Under the sub-heading “9th Pay Scale: Great Good News for Government Employees”, the publication says the new scale will be rolled out in two phases.

Basic salary will be implemented in the first year, followed by house rent and other allowances in the second.

According to the document, all committee members have signed the report.

The report noted that Tk 89,836 crore has been earmarked for salaries and allowances in the 2026-27 fiscal year budget, with the total allocation over Tk 1.41 lakh crore when pensions and gratuities are included.

Meanwhile, the seven-member cabinet committee formed to review the salary structure of the employees of the judiciary met for the first time yesterday.

After the meeting, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said the government will officially announce the pay scale this year.

“There are issues left to be discussed. Once a decision is reached, we will let you know,” he said in reply to journalists’ queries.

On July 27, 2025, the interim government formed a 23-member 9th National Pay Commission, headed by former finance secretary Zakir Ahmed Khan. The panel submitted its report on January 21 this year, retaining the existing 20 grades and recommending a 100-140 percent increase in total pay and allowances.

On April 21, the 10-member secretaries’ committee, headed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, was formed to recommend an implementation strategy for the new pay structure.
