At least three people, including the driver and his helper, were killed and 15 others injured when a bus crashed into a road divider and the base of an overpass in the Nalka area of Sirajganj this morning.
“The accident occurred around 11:00 am on the west side of the Jamuna Bridge. Mymensingh-bound bus of ‘Bushra Paribahan’ from Bogura suffered a sudden tyre burst at Nalka. The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the road divider and the base of an overpass. Identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed,” Jamuna Bridge West Police Station Officer-in-Charge Amirul Islam said.
“The driver and helper died at the scene. Another passenger succumbed to injuries while being transported to hospital,” he added.
Emergency services rescued at least 15 passengers and admitted them to various local hospitals, including the Sirajganj 250-Bed General Hospital
Authorities have launched a recovery operation to remove the wrecked bus from the highway.
Traffic on the busy route was briefly disrupted but is now being cleared by highway police.
