Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have bought Strancally Castle, a historic estate in County Waterford, Ireland.

The couple acquired the Gothic-revival property and its roughly 440-acre grounds in an off-market transaction completed several weeks ago, according to The Irish Times. Estimates put the value of the deal at between €20m and €30m.

Strancally Castle sits on the banks of the River Blackwater and dates from about 1830. The house was designed by architects James and George Richard Pain and was built for former MP John Keily.

The property reportedly includes at least 11 bedrooms, four tower suites, a library, dining room and drawing room. Its previous owners, Michael and Giancarla Alen-Buckley, had lived at and restored the property for about 25 years.

A spokesperson said Zuckerberg and his family planned to continue caring for the historic property and spend time in Ireland. Meta maintains its international headquarters in Dublin.

The purchase adds Zuckerberg to a list of wealthy technology figures who have acquired major Irish estates in recent years.
