The Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD led by ASM Abdur Rob, a partner of the Ganatantra Mancha, will participate separately in the next general elections scheduled for February 12 next year.

An alliance of five political parties, the Ganatantra Mancha also include Nagorik Oikya, Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh, Ganosamhati Andolan and Bhashani Onushari Parishad.

JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon at a press conference at the National Press Club in the capital Dhaka on Friday said that their party would take part in the forthcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections separately.

Shahid Uddin said that the JSD was taking part in movements jointly with the other partners in the Ganatantra Mancha for reforms and democratic transition of the country and his party believed that the continuation of national unity was required for achieving those.

‘Considering different circumstances, our party has decided to take part in the next general elections separately with the party symbol “Star”,’ Shahid Uddin added.

The party’s senior vice-president, Tania Rob, said that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party had failed to show due respect to their alliance partners before the forthcoming general elections, which could be difficult for their policy of accumulation and democratic transition of the country would be difficult.

Standing committee members of the party Mohammad Siraj Mia, KM Zabir, central leaders Mainur Rahman, Syed Belayet Hossain Belal and Mosharrraf Hossain Montu, among others, attended the press conference.

The JSD has already given party nominations for 170 seats across the country for the forthcoming Jatiya Sangsad elections.
