Under the government assistance programme, Tk 25 lakh will be allocated for the construction of a house for the family of Dipu Das, who was lynched by a mob, said the Chief Adviser's Office today.

The National Housing Authority will implement the project.

Dipu Chandra Das, a young man from the Hindu community, was brutally killed by a mob on December 18 last year in the Square Masterbari area of Mymensingh's Bhaluka upazila.

Dipu was beaten and ultimately killed following allegations of “hurting religious sentiments”. He was hanged from a tree and set on fire.

In addition to the housing cost, cash assistance will be provided to his family members. Tk 10 lakh each will be given to Dipu's father and wife, and an FDR of Tk 5 lakh will be created to ensure the future well-being of his child, said the CAO.

The assistance will be implemented under the supervision of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Tarakanda upazila.

Earlier, on the advice of Prof Muhammad Yunus, Education Adviser Dr CR Abrar visited Dipu Das's family home in Mokamiakanda village of Banihala union under Tarakanda upazila in Mymensingh district on December 23, 2025.

During the visit, he conveyed the government's sympathy and solidarity with the bereaved family.

As Dipu Das was the sole earning member of his family, the government took this initiative.

Speaking on Tuesday, CR Abrar said, "The killing of Dipu Chandra Das was a brutal crime with no justification and has no place in our society. The assistance the government is providing to his family is insignificant compared to the value of a human life. The state will certainly ensure justice."

The way Dipu was killed by spreading communal frenzy is a shame for the entire nation, he said.

Abrar further said, "As a state and as a society, we respect the peaceful right to express opinions of people of all religions, ethnicities, and communities -- so long as such expression maintains respect for others. Even in moments of disagreement or objection, no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands".

Noting that in connection with the incident, 12 people directly involved have already been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing, the education adviser affirmed that all those responsible will be brought to justice.
