Paul Meade, Apple's vice president responsible for the Vision Pro headset, is leaving the company to join OpenAI's hardware division, according to a recent report by Bloomberg.

Meade also led the development of Apple's artificial intelligence-powered smart glasses, which the company is reportedly planning to launch next year, the report said.

His departure comes as Apple seeks to expand its wearable devices portfolio following the mixed commercial performance of the Vision Pro headset. The company is expected to focus on lower-cost smart glasses as it competes with wearable products developed by Meta.

According to the report, the restructuring follows the anticipated elevation of John Ternus to the role of chief executive, with changes to the leadership structure leaving some vice presidents feeling their responsibilities had been reduced.
