A woman and her teenage daughter were hacked to death by unidentified assailants at their house in Anwara upazila of Chattogram on Saturday night.
The deceased are Eni Barua, 40, wife of Sujan Barua, and their daughter Priyanti Barua, 16, residents of Chenamoti Barua Para in Purba Kanyara village under Paraikora union.
The police said that a group of unidentified people entered the house in ward No 6 of Paraikora union at night and hacked the two with sharp weapons, killing them on the spot.
Chattogram district assistant superintendent of police (Anwara Circle) Mahmudul Hasan said that the police recovered the blood-stained bodies of the woman and her daughter after being informed of the incident.
He said that Eni’s five-year-old son was also injured in the attack. However, his condition was not critical.
Mahmudul Hasan said that Eni’s husband worked as a security guard in Chattogram city while she lived in the village house with her children.
He said that the police had primarily learnt that Eni’s family had long been at dispute with a close relative over various issues.
Family members suspected that the killings might have been linked to the dispute, the police official said.
The police launched an investigation into the killings and were trying to arrest the suspect involved, he added.
