Eight people were killed and several others injured in a head-on collision between two buses in Sylhet’s Osmaninagar this morning.
The identities of the victims could not be known immediately.
The accident took place around 7:00am on Friday on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the Kashikapon area of the upazila.
Aminul Islam, sub-inspector and duty officer of Osmaninagar Police Station, told The Daily Star that a Unique Paribahan bus and a Bengal Paribahan bus collided head-on killing seven people on the spot and leaving several others injured.
The injured were rescued and taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Another person died at the hospital, bringing the death toll to 8.
Police were working to identify the victims, said SI Aminul.
