The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today claimed that India's Border Security Force (BSF) attempted to push six people -- four men and two women -- into Bangladesh through the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah early today.

The alleged incident took place around 5:10am in the Samanta Border Outpost (BOP) area, according to a press release issued by the BGB Maheshpur Battalion-58.

BGB said members of the Singamora Camp under the BSF Battalion-59 attempted to push the six individuals into Bangladesh through a gate adjacent to border pillar 55/MP, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Samanta BOP in Maheshpur upazila.

However, a BGB patrol detected the attempt before the individuals could enter Bangladesh and prevented their entry, the release said.

The six individuals are currently staying about 30 yards inside Indian territory from the zero line, BGB said, adding that the matter has been communicated to the BSF.

Confirming the incident, BGB Maheshpur Battalion-58 Commanding Officer Lt Col Md Rafiqul Alam said the force remains on maximum alert to ensure border security, prevent push-ins and illegal infiltration, and maintain peace and order in the border areas.
