The Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) and the BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on December 2, 2025.
The agreement sets a partnership to support research, sustainable innovation and technical skill development across science, technology and textile fields.
The collaboration will support joint research in areas such as sustainable textiles, biomaterials, smart and composite materials, natural dyes, recycling and eco-friendly processing. It also includes scientific conferences, seminars, capacity-building workshops and specialised training for teachers, researchers, scientists and students of both institutions.
Under the agreement, the two organisations will share scientific materials, journals and laboratory resources. They will also supervise graduate and postgraduate research projects together. The partnership is expected to support work on product development, functional textiles and industrial process improvement, which are important for national sustainability efforts and Bangladesh's progress on the Sustainable Development Goals.
The MoU was signed by Dr Samina Ahmed, Chairman of BCSIR, and Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of BUFT. The agreement is valid for three years and may be renewed with mutual consent.
Leaders from both institutions said the partnership will create new research opportunities, strengthen intellectual property outputs and reinforce long-term academic and scientific cooperation. They said it will support the country's technological and industrial advancement.
