A complaint has been filed against a suspected drug addict in Gazipur's Sreepur upazila for allegedly threatening to kill his own 14-year-old son by holding a knife to his throat, recording a video of the incident, and sending it to his wife to demand money for drugs.

The accused is Moksed Ali, 40, of Beldia village in Sreepur.

The child's mother, Yasmin Akter, 30, filed the complaint with Sreepur Police Station yesterday, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahinur Alam.

According to the complaint, Moksed has long been addicted to drugs and frequently abused Yasmin to force her to give him money to buy narcotics.

Moksed allegedly lured the son, who resides at a madrasa, to a secluded location and recorded a video while holding a knife to the son's throat, and sent the footage to Yasmin while demanding money.

The video, which has since circulated widely on social media, shows the child lying unconscious with a white cloth wrapped around the head. Moksed is seen holding a knife near the child's throat and chest while repeatedly threatening to kill the child and directing threats at his wife.

After Yasmin filed the complaint, police launched an operation, rescued the child, and took the victim to a hospital for treatment.

Yasmin told police that the family had long been suffering due to her husband's drug addiction. She alleged that he often became violent whenever he failed to obtain money for drugs.

Speaking to The Daily Star today, OC Shahinur Alam said police rescued the child immediately after receiving the complaint.

"Legal proceedings are underway, and the accused will be brought to justice," he said.
