The Election Commission (EC) today said it will seek an appointment with the acting Speaker Qaiser Kamal to discuss the schedule for the upcoming presidential election.
EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed disclosed the development to reporters after a meeting at the commission's headquarters in Agargaon this afternoon.
He said the chief election commissioner (CEC) is required to meet the speaker before the election schedule is announced.
Accordingly, CEC AMM Nasir Uddin will pay a courtesy call on Qaiser Kamal.
Earlier in the day, the chief election commissioner, election commissioners and the EC secretary held a meeting at the CEC's office to review the legal aspects of the presidential election.
The move comes after President Mohammed Shahabuddin resigned on July 24, citing health complications.
