Saudi Arabia has officially confirmed the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon.

This means the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar will begin tomorrow (Monday, May 18).

Eid-ul-Azha will be observed in Saudi Arabia on May 27, according to Gulf News and Khaleej Times.

Muslims perform the annual Hajj pilgrimage which culminates in celebrating Eid-ul-Azha.

Eid-ul-Azha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering devotion to Allah SWT and his willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail, in obedience to divine command. At the moment of sacrifice, Allah SWT replaced Ismail with a ram, which was sacrificed instead.
