As relentless rainfall triggers severe flooding across several parts of Bangladesh, celebrities have taken to social media to express concern and urge the public to support those affected.
The floods have caused widespread suffering in districts including the Chattogram Hill Tracts, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet, leaving thousands of people stranded and displaced. Among those appealing for relief efforts are actors Mehazabien Chowdhury, Irfan Sajjad and Tanjim Saiara Totini.
Chattogram-born actress Mehazabien Chowdhury called for prayers and support for those affected by the floods and landslides.
“I sincerely pray for the people who have been affected by floods and landslides in different parts of the country. May Allah grant patience and strength to those who have lost loved ones, homes or their livelihoods,” she wrote.
She also expressed gratitude to those involved in rescue and relief operations and urged everyone to extend support to flood victims according to their means.
Actor Irfan Sajjad, who is also from the Chattogram region, voiced concern over the situation in his hometown through a social media post.
“My Chattogram is not well. Banshkhali, Satkania, Chakaria, Lohagara, Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban are in crisis. Yet there is no major news coverage, no real outcry. People are suffering silently, dying, and even graves are being washed away,” he wrote.
Recalling how people from Chattogram had come forward to help during previous floods in Cumilla, Noakhali and Feni, Irfan urged others to show the same solidarity.
“When floods struck Cumilla, Noakhali and Feni, people from Chattogram did everything they could to help. Today, these flood-affected communities deserve the same support. May Allah have mercy on us,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, actress Tanjim Saiara Totini also appealed to the public to stand beside those affected.
In her post, she said districts including Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Sylhet and Habiganj were submerged, with thousands of homes inundated and many families forced to take shelter on rooftops or in emergency shelters.
Totini urged those in safer areas to help in whatever way they could.
“Even a packet of dry food or a bottle of drinking water can make a difference to someone affected by the floods,” she wrote, while also encouraging people to move to safe shelters and assist others whenever possible.
