Bangladesh pacers Shoriful Islam and Nahid Rana once again underlined their growing value for Peshawar Zalmi, repaying the franchise’s faith with a composed bowling effort in a 24-run win over Multan Sultans in a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match on Monday.
Both players are scheduled to return home today to join the national team camp ahead of the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand.
Zalmi had earlier requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board to retain the two pacers for an extra day, and the decision proved justified on the field.
While Nahid starred with the ball, returning figures of 2 for 24 from his four overs, Shoriful delivered a tidy spell despite going wicketless, conceding just 27 runs in his quota. The pair played a crucial role in tightening the screws during key phases of the innings.
Nahid, in particular, has been one of the standout bowlers this season. The right-arm quick has claimed seven wickets in four matches at an economy rate of 5.42, combining control with sharp pace. Shoriful, who has featured in one additional game, has picked up two wickets, albeit at a higher economy rate of 7.93.
Earlier, Zalmi posted a competitive 196 for 6 after being put in to bat, riding on a fluent 68 off 40 balls from Kusal Mendis and a brisk 38 off 17 from Mohammad Haris.
In reply, Multan were restricted to 172 for 8. Shan Masood top-scored with 35 off 19 balls but lacked sustained support, as Zalmi’s bowlers struck at regular intervals. Left-arm wrist spinner Sufiyan Muqeem led the charge with three wickets.
Nahid’s impact was most pronounced in the death overs, where his pace and accuracy choked Multan’s chase. Bowling at speeds exceeding 147 kph, he conceded just eight runs across two crucial overs while also picking up wickets, effectively shutting the door on any late comeback.
The result keeps Zalmi unbeaten after six matches, sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 11 points, while Multan remain second with eight points from the same number of games.
