At least 25 leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the banned student wing of the Awami League, and the youth wing, Juba League, have been arrested over Saturday’s clash between Awami League and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s student body Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, in Noakhali.

Noakhali district superintendent of police TM Moshrraf Hossain said that they had made the arrests after conducting raids in different areas under Sadar upazila.

‘We are taking legal actions against them,’ he added.

On the other hand, Sudharam police station officer-in-charge Towhidul Islam was closed and attached to the police lines but the police said that the transfer was an administrative move not related to the incident, he also said.

The official added that they had arrested 49 BCL and JL leaders and activists in the past two days.

Activities of the Awami League were banned until the completion of its trail for allegations of crime against humanity during the 2024 July student mass uprising, by the interim government led by professor Muhammad Yunus.
